The Fairhaven Historical Society is conveniently located on the second floor of the Academy Building, 141 Main Street, Fairhaven, near Fairhaven High School.

 

Designated as a National Historic Place, the Academy Building is a testament to the town's rich heritage. Since October 1992, the Fairhaven Historical Society has operated a museum showcasing an authentic early 19th-century classroom, photographs, furniture, artifacts, and other items related to the town's history. In the collection are pieces of art by Lemuel D. Eldred, Milton Delano, and others. You can also explore a scaled model of Capt. Joshua Slocum’s Sloop Spray and a Period Room exhibiting antique furniture and accessories.

 

The Office of Tourism is located on the first floor of the Academy Building. The Historical Society follows the same hours as the Office of Tourism.

The Fairhaven Historical Society is a member-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the history of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The Fairhaven Historical Society’s activities serve to supplement the work of the Fairhaven Office of Tourism and the Town of Fairhaven Historical Commission.
